our final speaker this morning is john hennessy. john is a graduate of the state university of new york in albany. he works for the new york state historic preservation office and for the national park service. as you know, most recently fredericksburg and spotsylvania. he was the superintendence of the park. he is the chief historian. he has written a number of books , the battle -- the first battle of manassas and the end of innocence. it is now being reprinted in a revised edition out later this year. of course, the return to bull run, the campaign and battle of manassas. that is the standard work on the second manassas campaign. today, john will be talking about freedom, the civil war and its legacies. john hennessy.
